Gerund and Infinitive Second Year Baccalaureate
هناك ثلاثة صيغ (forms) لكل في اللغة الإنجليزية و هي (gerund) و (infinitive) و (infinitive without to):

1. صيغة (gerund) هي بكل بساطة (verb+ing) مثل: (palying) و (taking) و (working) و (listening) و (writing)
2. صيغة (infinitive) هي (to+verb) مثل: (to play) و (to take) و (to work) و (to listen) و (to write)
3. صيعة (infinitive without to) هي الفعل فقط بدون أي إضافات مثل: (play) و (take) و (work) و (listen) و (write)

2. I love working at night.
3. I want to play tennis.
4. I decide to work at night.
5. I can play tennis.
6. Let's work at night.
توضيح
لكن السؤال المطروح هنا هو لماذا في بعض الحالات نكتب (verb+ing) و في حالات أخرى (to+verb) و حالات أخرى (verb) فقط؟
الجواب بكل بساطة هي الأفعال أو التعابير التي تأتي وراء الفعل. لاحظ هذه الأمثلة:
إذن أفعال مثل (enjoy+love) دائما يتبعه (verb+ing).
و أفعال مثل (want+decide) دائما يتبعه (to+verb).
و أفعال مثل (let's) دائما يتبعه (verb) فقط.
